Varoom: Empathy

This has to be one of my favourite pieces of all time. I had the idea to make something with My Little Pony hair, and I first envisioned soliciting friends and strangers for their children’s used toys and scalping them. Then I thought of eBay (again more visions of scalping), and finally discovered that you can buy virgin My Little Pony hair in many colours. Much to my surprise, the hair is really nice, and soft and pretty. I suddenly understood the appeal of this toy that I formerly had utter contempt for. It’s all about the long, luxurious hair!

Anyway, as the theme was “Empathy” I thought of something that makes most people almost break with empathy, and that is when we hear about someone’s lost child. So I needle-pointed it with MLP hair. It took forever. It was worth it.
